Our Vision

This charism is diverse and has a threefold commitment: to the Church, to the Jewish people and to a world of justice, peace and love…

(Constitution No.13)

  • We who journey together in Sion work for reconciliation, justice and peace among all peoples, regardless of colour, race or creed.
  • The Word of God reflected on and shared together is central to life in Sion
  • The Spirit enables us to discover the link between the concrete events of life and the Word: events bring the Scriptures alive for us and the Scriptures reveal the significance of events and human existence.
  • Our vision is expressed by a commitment to the Church, to the Jewish people and to the building of a world of justice, peace and love.
  • The Church has come to recognise that her origins lie within first century Judaism.  Judaism has developed since then, and today it is a living vibrant faith with long traditions, colourful festivals and a spirituality that enlightens biblical interpretations. We are called to be in relationship and to dialogue with Jewish people.
  • Sion’s understanding of justice is rooted in Biblical tradition. In a world where so many people are hungry, homeless, exiled or seeking refuge, we commit ourselves to work for right relationships, justice and reconciliation.

The Olive Tree is a biblical and universal symbol of peace; it is also used by St. Paul to illustrate the integral link binding the Church to Judaism (Romans 11:17-24). The Church cannot forget that she "draws sustenance from the root of that olive tree onto which she has been grafted". (Vat II Nostra Aetate Par 4)
